eventually, yes any fair sized tablet would be useful, if you can find cheaper tablets, all the better, wacom has good choices,

I agree with the first good answer, but I will give you a secret. I bought the least expensive Wacom tablet (Graphire ET0405 if they still make it), which is small, and still use it. It can produce wide or narrow and changing width line. When I queried, I found that I could buy replacement tips - just like the ones in more the expensive pens - that have a little spring in them for a much more flexible brush. $4.95 for 5.

Further, your paint software (as Paint Shop Pro that I use does) should allow you to set the line width and by enlarging the picture to let you stroke as you wish. And you should be able to change the sensitivity of your mouse - in Window on Control panel, Mouse.
