Hi all!
I'm looking for sites that offer tips and tricks on how to get oil paint effects and appearance via digital means, using Corel Painter specifically. Such as getting a closer appearance to the traditional look of oil paintings.
IMPORTANT
I'm not at all interested in filters, or painters clone, quick clone or auto clone features editing original photographs to make them appear like oil paintings. That, to me, is cheating and the computer doing all the work.
So I'm looking for tips and tutorials etc. on getting the oil paint look by hand, with hard work, to create artwork that's original and resembles oil painting, and not how a 14yr old on Deviantart would do it with filters and claim it as art. :P
Thanks!
I'll say again, no filters, cloning or faking tutorials tips and tricks, those don't interest me and offer no creativity. But I know someone is going to link to one, lol.Digital oil painting tips and tricks?
If you do not already have this in your background, the one thing that will provide the experience so many digital artists lack is hands-on familiarity with traditional tools and paints. Work with the real thing and you will have a door to a dimension directly available to you. Writing out 5-20 books of information will not do that for you.
You will find a wide variety of information and, more importantly, people with the experience in both digital and traditional mediums here:

How can i leave the digital camera(sony DSC w210) shutter opened to do some light painting?
i have came of some of those light paintings lately and i want to know for real how i can just make the shutter opened so i would be able to do that i need help plz my camera is Sony Cybershot DSC-w210How can i leave the digital camera(sony DSC w210) shutter opened to do some light painting?
W210 does not have shutter priority, aperture priority or manual mode. It is pretty hard to do. You may try to set to the lowest ISO value and turn off the flash. You may be able to get an exposure of 1 or 2 seconds.

I want to have my son's bike painted in Digital Camo. Does anyone know a company that does that? ANYWHERE.?

First thing YOU want his bike painted camo? Does he want it that color? Anyway you can just go to a car customization shop and have them do it. My friend did that once and he had it painted a sick flourescent black!I want to have my son's bike painted in Digital Camo. Does anyone know a company that does that? ANYWHERE.?
bike has to be completely disassembled. then sandblasted, cleaned, then custom paint. that'll be alot of money. then put it all back together again. you could contact the people at ';realtree'; to see if they will dip it for you. that's how they do it for solid objects. if you got the money anything can be done for a price.

A GOOD painting/digital art program?!?!?
I make some small graphics in my free time, just for fun. I like using programs with special effects and brushes because the backgrounds of these images are very key in the quality and overall appearance. I have been previously using the free trial of Corel IX painter, that worked very very well for me, however, I don't want to buy it and my trial is up, ((setting the computer's clock back doesn't work)). So I am wondering if there are any similar programs out there that are FREE and are of GOOD QUALITY? thanks for the help. =)A GOOD painting/digital art program?!?!?

I want to enhance a digital picture on my computer so that it looks like a painting. I have a Mac.?
I want to take a picture and make it look like a painting. I know I can download (for a fee) a program that does this, but I was wondering if iPhoto might have this feature, though I'm not hopeful. Please help if you can. Thanks!I want to enhance a digital picture on my computer so that it looks like a painting. I have a Mac.?
As far as I know iPhoto does not have any painting tools. It is an image organizer and basic photo editor (it lets you make some basic corrections to photos).
There is a version of Gimp for Macs (actually I think there are a couple) but you may find both the installation and use a little confusing. It's a free image editor similar to Photoshop, although the interface is different. But it's OpenSource and free. Go here if you want more info:
http://darwingimp.sourceforge.net/
Other than that, your best bet may be to buy Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac. It's less than $100 vs. the full version of Photoshop which will be $600 to $900.
Another option would be to buy Corel Painter X. It is specifically designed to help you create more artistic effects/painting effects.
Good luck!

If a person is good with painting on a digital program with the computer...?
... does that mean that they'll be good at painting with real paint? If a person is good with painting on a digital program with the computer...?
If they are willing to put up with the learning curve of the medium, then yeah.
Painting digitally is no different than painting traditionally. You still pick colors from a palette, and you still paint every stroke with a brush (i.e. pen tablet). You still have to worry about composition, color harmony, anatomy, and perspective.
You have some tools (like layers, undo, and a 16.7 million color palette) that speed up the process, but otherwise it really isn't any different. There are filters that can render certain effects, but any real artist will naturally make limited use of such things as they tend to look artificial. Even so, filters are not unlike painting traditionally using mixed media.
One can't just make the switch from digital to traditional at the flip of a switch, though. They will need to learn to mix colors, how to manage ';wet'; and ';dry'; areas, and how to work with the drying time of the medium. Still, learning those things is not unlike learning all the features of Photoshop to get the desired effects.
Bottom line, every medium has a learning curve, but no matter what the medium - digital or traditional - the art will only be as good as the artist painting with it. The medium doesn't make the art.
